Welcome to GBF 2015

Development, now a days, seems to have become the agenda only of the government. GBF was conceptualised to change that. Our trilogy, academia, industry and government was aligned together to make it everyone’s agenda and become a people’s movement.

What took approximately 1 year in the planning with close to 200 conference calls between over 100 volunteers in 3000 man-hours of ideating and working together for this one event. Granted that along with several hits, GBF 2015  had its share of misses but if one was to take a telescopic view, here is what the scale of the event looked like:-

GBF 2015 is a far-reaching initiative and will go a long way in proposing an integrated policy agenda that leverages India’s demographic dividend.  This is a great beginning and promises to be biggest and most ambitious forum for a dialog between government, industry and academia driving the nation’s growth.  The IIT Bombay DNA boasts of the best minds and this conglomeration at GBF 2015 of successful entrepreneurs, business leaders, technologists, philanthropists and key Government officials could spark and ignite innovative policy decisions that drive more job growth in tune with India’s economic growth.” – Dr. Romesh Wadhwani , Founder, Symphony technology Group

“IIT Bombay is more than just a first class university, there are certain visions, viewpoints, opinions, externalities and most importantly spirit that charac terise its patrons, and this, makes it what it is. With departments specializing in engineering, design, management to humanities, this is as cosmopolitan an environment as there can be, when it comes to starting a business. The Global Business Forum was the stage that brought all of it together.

To be selected in the first batch of interns to organize it, gave me certain bragging rights that few others can shoot down. The greatest thing that GBF offered was perhaps a short bioscope of what IIT Bombay is, was and will be, and that is a never ending hub of innovation! It dissolved the invisible barriers that silently restrict the interactions that happen between a bachelor and a PhD scholar or a current student with alum! It influenced me in far subtler ways, perhaps acting as a window to the life that awaits after I pass out. Meeting famous personalities, working with incredible peers and handling unpredictable tensions, these are what I’ll remember GBF by! But having said that, sweet is the fruit of adversity, the 3 days in Goa was worth all the hassle, for given the chance, I’d do it all over again. Utsav Basak, IITB student and GBF intern
